Man killed in Magura ‘gunfight’

Magura: A man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Chhoto Khalimpur area of Sadar upazila in Magura in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased is, Daud Hossain, 45, a resident of Gauricharanpur village of the upazila.

Magura Police assistant superintendent Shudarshan Kumar Roy said Daud is the chief of ‘Tiger Bahini’ and a top enlisted criminal.

Police said that there are 10 cases against Daud with different police stations of Magura, Jhinaidah and Rajbari.

Police held Daud from Baraichara area of Sadar upazila at about 2:30am on Wednesday.

Daud’s associates opened fire at the police, when they conducted a drive to recover arms from Chotto Khalimpur village at about 3:30am.

In retaliation, police fired back, which left Daud dead on the spot.

The police superintendent said local-made arms including shooter gun, a pipe gun and 21 bullets were recovered from the spot. Sadar Police sub-inspector Manik Gayen, sub-inspector Mohsin and constable Ekramul and Jahid were also injured during the gunfight.
