Khaleda meets BNP senior leaders tonight
Dhaka: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is going to sit with her party’s senior leaders, including standing committee members, tonight (Wednesday night) to discuss the country’s latest political situation and the upcoming municipality polls.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30pm at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, her media wing member Shamsuddin Didar told UNB.
It will be Khaleda’s the first meeting with her party’s leaders since her return from London after over two months of stay there.
Party insiders said the BNP chief convened the meeting to discuss the country’s overall situation and work out the party’s next course of action.
They said Khaleda will seek opinions of the senior leaders about joining the municipality polls billed for 30 December and finalise the decision in this regard.
Returning home from London on 21 November, Khaleda attended her Gulshan office on Tuesday night and decided to hold the meeting with the senior leaders of her party.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Tuesday announced that elections to 234 municipalities across the country will be held on 30 December.
The municipal elections will partly be held under party line for the first time as Parliament passed the Local Government (Municipality) (Amendment) Bill 2015 on 19 November, paving the path for mayoral candidates to contest the elections with party symbols.
