Porimol paid bucks to buy Pill
The Viqarunnisa Noon School and College student who was raped twice by her teacher in 2011 said the teacher, Porimol Joydhar, gave her money to buy contraceptive pills after she had been raped for the second time.
The girl said this to a Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal in Dhaka on 22 August 2013.
‘He raped me for the second time in the coaching centre on 17 June 2011. On 19 June when I went to school, he gave me Tk 100 to buy the Pill,’ said the girl.
The girl went on saying ‘On 28 May 2011, Porimol Sir raped me for the first time. As I was late for the coaching, he asked me to stay there after the coaching to help me understand what I missed. When everyone left the coaching, he raped me and took images with his mobile phone.’
She said Porimol threatened her not to say anyone about the incident; otherwise he will disclose her images on the internet.
‘I did not tell my parents about the incident out of shame and fear and continued my study at the coaching,’ added the girl.
The tribunal on Wednesday (25 November 2015) sentenced the teacher to life-term imprisonment, about four and a half years after the incident.
On 5 July 2011, the victim’s father lodged a rape case with the Badda police against Porimol, Viqarunnisa principal Hosne Ara and its Bashundhara branch head Lutfur Rahman.
Detectives arrested Porimol from a relative’s house in Keraniganj on 7 July of that year.
He made confessional statement before a court on 11 July, four days after his arrest.
Police submitted charge sheet before the court on 11 August in that year, dropping the names of Hosne Ara and Lutfur Rahman.
The court finally framed charges against Porimol on 7 March 2012.
The formal trial started on 6 June 2012 with the recording of depositions of the witnesses.
