Chandpur: Two people were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Devpur on the Chandpur-Comilla Highway in Hajiganj upazila on Tuesday evening.

One of the deceased is Anisur Rahman, 35, an expatriate.

Witnesses said a Chandpur-bound speeding truck collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw at about 7:30pm, leaving seven passengers of the three-wheeler injured.

Later, locals rescued them and whisked them off to Hajiganj Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared Anisur and the taxi driver dead.

Five other injured were shifted to Comilla General Hospital as their conditions were critical.

Hajiganj police officer-in-charge M Shah Alam confirmed the incident.

Police seized both of the vehicles.
