Hossaini Dalan blast accused killed in reported gunfight
Dhaka: A military wing commander of banned Islamic outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was killed in a reported gunfight with detectives in Dwipnagar area of Mirpur in the city early on Thursday.
The deceased is Al-Bani alias Hujja alias Mahfuz alias Shahadat, an accused in several cases, including for Hossaini Dalan blast, killing of ASI Ibrahim of Darus Salam Police Station and Ashulia check-post attack incident, reported UNB.
Detective Branch in separate drives arrested five active members of JMB in the city from Wednesday night to early Thursday, said Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police while briefing reporters.
They arrested Chan Miah from Mirpur, Omar Faruk alias Manik from Abdullahpur, Mohammad Shahjahan and Hafez Kari Ahsan Ullaj Mahbub from Gulistan and Kabir Hossain alias Rashed alias Ashik from Kamrangichar area, added Monirul Islam.
Getting information from the arrested JMB members, a special team of DB conducted a drive in the area at about 11:00pm on Wednesday.
Sensing presence of the law enforces, the criminals opened fire on them prompting them to fire back, triggering a gunfight.
The gunfight left Mahfuz critically injured.
Later he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 12:15am.
The DB also recovered one pistol, two magazines, 12 bullets, a machete and a motorcycle from the spot.
During primary interrogation, the arrestees also informed that five members, including deceased Mahfuz, directly participated in Hossaini Dalan blast incident.
He was also involved in the ASI killing in Mirpur and Ashulia check-post attack.
On 4 November, industrial police constable Mukul Hossain of Sripur police camp was killed and another constable Nur-E-Alam injured as some unidentified miscreants in a sudden attack hacked them indiscriminately while they were on duty at Baraipara check-post adjacent to Nandan Park on Nabinagar-Chandra Highway.
On 21 October, ASI Ibrahim of Darus Salam police station was stabbed to death by a youth at a checkpoint near Parbata Cinema Hall of Gabtali when a police team was searching his bag.
On 26 October, two people, including a school student, were killed and more than 100 injured as three powerful bombs went off at about 1:45am when Shia community people gathered in Hossaini Dalan for bringing out a Tajia procession marking holy Ashura.
