5 killed in road crashes in Sirajganj, Comilla

Dhaka: Five people, including a woman, were killed and 42 others injured in three separate road crashes in Sirajganj and Comilla on Friday.
In Sirajganj, a Nilphamari bound bus of ‘Alo Paribahan’ collided head on with a bus of ‘SR Paribahan’ coming from the opposite direction near Pacholia Market area of Dhaka-Bogra highway at about 2:15pm.
The accident left two people dead on the spot and 36 others injured. The deceased could not be identified immediately.
Among the injured, 21 were taken to various hospitals in Bogra, Rajshahi and Sirajgonj.
The highway was blocked for an hour after the accident.
Hatikumrul highway police officer in-charge Abdul Quader Jilani confirmed the incident.
Earlier, a woman was killed and three others injured as a sand-laden truck rammed an auto-rickshaw van near Panggashi Bailey-Bridge in Raigonj upazila of the district at about 9:00am.
The deceased is Sheuly 25, wife of Abdul Shekh, hailing from Bagbati village of Sadar upazila.
Police arrested the driver of the truck, Raju, 35.
Meanwhile in Comilla, two passengers of a CNG driven auto-rickshaw were killed and three others injured as a bus smashed the auto-rickshaw in Chouara area of Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sadar South upazila at about 6:00pm.
The deceased are Jashim Uddin, 30, son of Edris Ali, hailing from Ram Ghoria village of Nangolkot upazila; and Babul 32, son of Firoz Mia, hailing from Kuchaitali area of Sadar upazila.
Sadar south police officer in-charge Prashanta Paul confirmed the incident.
