Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday sent a letter to Election Commission stating the party candidates will participate in the first ever municipal polls under party symbol.

A five-member delegation handed over the letter to EC deputy secretary Mohammad Shamsul Alam at the EC secretariat at about 12:00pm on Saturday.

A delegation member, also Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal joint secretary general said the party central committee joint secretary general Mohammad Shajahan will finalise the nominations of the party candidates in the imminent municipal polls. The letter signed by Khaleda Zia has been sent to 236 municipals and a copy of the letter is also handed over to the EC.

Other members of the delegation were— BNP assistant publicity secretary Imran Saleh Prince, assistant office secretary Saiful Islam Tipu, Asadul Karim Shahin and Jatiyatabadi Matsyajibi Dal organising secretary Abdul Awal Khan.
