Govt patronising ethnic cleansing: Santu Larma
Dhaka: The government has been urged to take necessary steps towards the proper implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord to avoid any further chaos in the region.
The actions of the government are going, in violation of the peace accord, against the interests of Jumma people, a term used to mention the people living in the hill tracts region, alleged Parbattya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS) president Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma, also known as Santu Larma.
He made the allegations at a press conference on Saturday at a hotel in Dhaka marking the 18th anniversary of the historic peace accord that settled the long standing disputes between the government and the indigenous people of Chittagong Hill Tracts region.
‘Two third of the 72 articles of the peace accord are yet to be implemented, although 18 years have passed since its signing,’ Santu Larma read from his written speech.
He said unless the government works to solve these issues, the Jumma people might have to take things in their own hands as self-defence.
An announcement of a mass rally to be held on 2 December also came from the press conference. Further programme will be declared from the mass rally, that PCJSS will organise marking the 18 anniversary of the peace deal.
