Narayanganj: Three people sustained burn injuries as miscreants set afire a bus at Sawghat on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Rupganj upazila in the early hours of Wednesday.

Two of the injured are Mainuddin, 24, assistant of the bus driver, and Shakil Ahmed, 25.

Witnesses said miscreants torched the Asian Paribahan bus around 3:30am, leaving the trio, who were sleeping at its backside, injured.

Later, Mainuddin got down from the bus breaking open the window and started to yell.

Hearing his shout, local people went to the spot, doused the flame and rescued the two others from the vehicle.

Later, they were whisked off to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Bholta police camp in-charge sub-inspector Rabiul Islam confirmed the incident.
