City to get new truck terminal: DNCC mayor
Dhaka: A new truck terminal will soon be built on Bangladesh Railway land to ease parking difficulties, said Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Annisul Huq on Sunday following his visit at Tejgaon from where an unlawful truck parking facility had been evicted.
Law enforcers conducted the eviction drive on the site as Sunday was the deadline to remove all of the illegal structures on government land.
Police fired tear gas shells and charged batons on the transport workers reportedly opposed the eviction and tried to resist the workers from conduction their drives.
At least two workers were injured by rubber bullets shot by the police. They are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq went to the spot and held a meeting with transport owners and workers. He later, in the afternoon, announced the plan to set up a new terminal for trucks on Tejgaon railway land.
He also said that the authorities concerned would manage land for parking trucks but no truck would be allowed parking on roads.
