7 Shibir activists jailed for 20 years

Rangpur: Seven activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir have been given twenty years of rigorous imprisonment each in a violence case in Rangpur.
Rangpur Additional District and Sessions Judge Abu Zafar Kamruzzaman delivered the verdict on Tuesday.
According to the case statements, Kotwali police arrested two Shibir activists along with crude bombs, bottles loaded with petrol, and local arms from a student dormitory on 18 March 2013.
Later, police submitted charge-sheet against seven people in a violence case filed over the incident.
Seven Shibir activists were given twenty years of rigorous imprisonment each. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in prison.
Two of the convicts were present during the trial while five others were tried in absentia.
