Dhaka: Municipal candidates must seek permission for holding any indoor meetings, alongside outdoor programmes, said Election Commissioner Mohammad Shahnewaz.

While talking with journalists in his Dhaka office on Tuesday, he claimed that EC was trying to be unbiased and in future it would continue. He also said that demands of the contesting parties were not met only to keep the EC impartial.

He also asked the candidates to strictly follow the electoral norms.

The candidates, who are yet to remove posters used for advance publicity, are likely to face punishment, said Shahnewaz.

EC is going to hold nation-wide municipal elections on 30 December.
