Dhaka: The resumption of social networking sites including Facebook depends on the Home Ministry, says State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Tarana Halim.

‘It (reopening) doesn’t depend on our wish, it depends on the Home Ministry and the government to determine whether the citizens are absolutely safe or not,’ she said while responding to a question.

The junior minister said whenever instructions will come from the Home Ministry saying it is safe to reopen, it will then be followed accordingly. ‘We can’t endanger a single person.’

She urged all to respect the government decision for the sake of safety and security of the citizens of the country. ‘Please let’s try to respect the government decision accepting the inconvenience.’

Tarana was responding to a volley of questions after a programme arranged by Canadian High Commission in Dhaka marking the International Day of the Girl Child 2015.
