Chittagong: A minor girl was burnt to death as a fire broke out in a house at Sonaichari Shitolpur of Sitakundu upazila in Chittagong on Thursday night.

The deceased is Sanjida Begum, 8, daughter of Badsha Miah, a resident of the area.

Kumira fire station senior officer Mohammad Harun Pasha said the fire might have originated from a mosquito coil and engulfed the house at about 11:30am when Badsha and his wife went out of the house keeping their only daughter inside it under lock and key.

On information, two fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire after one and half an hour effort.

They recovered the charred body of Sanjida from the house.

A stationary shop and a tea stall were also gutted in the fire, added the official.
