Dhaka: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said action will be taken against those Islamic scholars who are instigating militancy through their speeches in different places in waz mahfils (gatherings of religious sermon).

‘We’ve information that militancy is being provoked through waz mahfils. We’ll ask Islamic scholars to show those the right path who are involved in militant activities. Our law enforcement agencies will take necessary action against those involved in such anti-state activities,’ he said.

He came up with the remarks at a reception of those police members of Rajarbagh Police Lines who first raised protests and opened fire against Pakistani occupation army on 25 March during 1971, reports UNB.

Responding to a question, the Home Minister informed the media that law enforcement agencies have arrested a suspect from the border area in connection with the killing of Japanese national Hoshi Kunio.

He also said intelligence and law enforcement agencies are trying to unearth the mystery behind the killing of ward-level Awami League leader Enamul in Dhaka. ‘We’ll identify the killers and the motive behind the killings soon,’ he said.

On Saturday morning police recovered the body of Enamul Haque Gias, 50, general secretary of ward No-8 of Sarulia union unit, of the ruling party with the throat slit at Tantir Pukur at West Sanarpar area in Dhaka.
