EC asks for pause to approval of municipal projects
Dhaka: The Election Commission has sent a letter to the Planning Commission asking it not to place municipality-related projects in an Ecnec (Executive Committee of the National Economic Council) meeting ahead of the countrywide municipal elections slated for 30 December, report local news agency.
The letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary Shamsul Alam was sent on Monday night.
‘We’ve come to know that some projects would be placed in Tuesday’s Ecnec meeting for approval. Of them, there are projects for the election areas. This is why we’ve sent a letter asking them to not approve the projects for the sake of holding a fair and free election,’ Shamsul Alam said.
The Planning Commission had kept some projects under the revenue and development programmes in the agenda of Tuesday’s scheduled Ecnec meeting.
