Eight alleged robbers were killed in a lynch-mob attack at Araihazar upazila in Narayanganj on early Thursday.

The deceased and injured could not be identified immediately.

Araihazar police officer-in-charge Shahadat Hossain said a group of thieves swooped on the Purinda Bazar of the upazila at about 2:00am for stealing valuables.

Sensing the thieves’ presence, local people chased them off.

At one stage, local people some of the thieves and gave them a good thrashing, leaving four of them dead on the spot. Five people were injured in the mob attack. They were taken to Araihazar upazila health complex where three succumbed to their injuries.
