Narayanganj: A court on Thursday convicted nine people and sentenced them to life imprisonment in a case for murdering a freedom fighter in Mouchak area of Siddhirganj upazila of the district 13 years ago.

The convicts are Nur Mohammad Ali alias Nuru, Ahammad Ali, Dil Mohammad Dila, Abdul Kaiyum, Salam, Iqbal Hossain, Sofor Ali and Mohor Ali, all residents of the same area.

The lifers were also fined Tk 1 lakh each.

After examining record and 26 witnesses, Judge Mamunur Rashid of the Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court, Narayanganj handed down the verdict in the morning.

According to the prosecution, the convicts murdered freedom fighter Nur Hossain in the area on February 20, 2002.

Later the victim’s father filed a case in this connection.
