Electricity, satellite television and internet connections to the office of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia were cut off on Saturday morning.

The supply disruption occurred hours after the shipping minister Shahjahan Khan, also a ruling party leader, on Friday threatened that they would lay siege to the office of Khaleda Zia at Gulshan in Dhaka and cut of all utility connections to the office if the 20-Party Alliance leader did not withdraw the ongoing blockade.

Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (Desco) disconnected electricity line of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the capital on early Saturday.

BNP’s press wing official Shamsuddin Didar told NTV that the power supply to the party chief’s political office was cut at 2:42am on instruction of the Gulshan police. He also said the office is now using generator for electricity.

The internet and satellite television connections to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office were snapped in the morning.

Didar said they found the satellite connection severed when they turned on the TV at about 9:00am on Saturday.

Daily Star quoting Shamsuddin Didar reports that the internet connection to the office was also snapped in the morning.

The BNP chief has been staying at her Gulshan office since 3 January.
