Chittagong: Two cases have been filed against 134 people in connection with the clash between the activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the Chittagong College campus on the Victory Day on Wednesday.

Mohammad Kamal Uddin, sub-inspector of Chawkbazar Police Station, filed the cases with the police station early Thursday making 14 identified and 120 unidentified people accused.

Sub-inspector Shampa Hazari, duty officer of the police station, said the two cases were filed under the Arms Act and the Explosives Act.

At least five people were inured in the clash between the activists of Shibir and BCL on the Chittagong College campus on Wednesday.

Quoting witnesses, police said two crude bombs went off next to the Victory Day rally organised by BCL at Shaheed Minar on the campus at about 1:15pm.

Though it was not clear who hurled the bombs, the BCL activists locked horns with a group of Shibir activists who came out of the Academic Building of the college immediately after the explosion.

At one stage, the BCL and Shibir activists from both sides exchanged brickbats that left at least five BCL men injured.

Officer-in-charge of the Police Station Aziz Uddin said on information, police rushed to the campus and calmed the situation by firing several rounds of bullets in the air.

Later, the BCL activists came out of the campus and blocked the College Road in protest, leading to the suspension of vehicular movement for about half an hour.

Meanwhile, Chittagong College authorities closed three dormitories of the male students and one of the female ones for an indefinite period following the clash.

Besides, two dormitories of the male students of Mohsin College were also closed following the clash.

The authorities also formed a five-member probe body to look into the matter, said principle of the college Jesmine Akter.

Meanwhile, police detained 70 people after the incident for interrogation.
