Faridpur AL leader detained, firearms recovered from residence
Faridpur: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained an Awami League leader carrying firearms at Sadarpur upazila in Faridpur on Monday night.
Delwar Hossain Talukder, in his fifties, president of Krishnapur union ward-5 Awami League in the upazila, was arrested in Faridpur Medical College Hospital area at about 11:00pm on Monday.
Later, on Tuesday afternoon, police recovered a foreign pistol, a magazine, and three bullets after conducting a drive at Delwar Hossain’s residence in East Shyampur area of the upazila.
Faridpur RAB-8 Commanding Officer (CO) Additional Superintendent of police Rais Uddin claimed Delwar Hossain, also a union council member of the ward, conducted violent acts at the area. He is accused in cases filed over murders, and extortions.
After the arrest, a case was filed against Delwar Hossain, who is also a member of Krishnapur High School directors’ committee, under arms act with Sadarpur police, said Sadarpur police Officer-in-charge (OC) Harun Aur Rashid on Tuesday evening.
The OC said trail processes are on progress in some cases filed against the Awami League leader.
