19kg gun powder recovered in Chapainawabganj

Chapainawabganj: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered around 19kilogram of gun powder from a trader at Sadar upazila in Chapainawabganj on Wednesday night.

The explosive material was recovered from Shibirer Hat area under Shundorpur union at the upazila while RAB members were conducting a drive in the area.

RAB also detained an explosive trade, Mohammad Mithun, a resident of the village of Shurjanarayanpur of the Sadar upazila, during the drive.

RAB-5 Chapainawabganj camp commander Enamul Karim said being tipped of RAB conducted drive at the Shibirer Hat area at about 8:30pm and detained Mithun carrying gun powder.

The gun powder was hidden in four plastic bags which were kept in a sack. Police kept eyes on Mithun, who is an explosive-trader, for a long time.

The RAB official said a case was filed under Explosive Substances Act with Chapainawabganj Sadar police on Wednesday night.
