Dhaka: Strongly denouncing law enforcers' reported intervention in a meeting at Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab) President ASM Abdur Rab's Uttara residence, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday alleged it has manifested the state's current 'atrocious and extremely anti-people nature'.

In a statement, she also alleged that law enforcers, let loose by the government, have got desperate to suppress the opposition parties and alternative opinions.

"The current regime has crossed all the limits after pushing the country into the deep darkness of one-party misrule. Even, the country' political, social and religious organisations' indoor programmes are obstructed," Khaleda Zia said.

According to media reports, police took position in front of Rab's house as leaders of some opposition political parties sat in a meeting there on Thursday night. At one stage, the law enforcers allegedly entered the house and forced them to cut the meeting short.

Khaleda Zia said police entered Rab's house with an evil motive to spread panic among people so that no one dares raise voice against the government. "The government used police to foil the meeting at Rab's house as part of its ill tactics to eliminate its opponents.

She said the rule of law is now absent in the country for obliterating democracy. "Social crimes are now on the rise sharply as the law enforcers have been given the license to repress the opposition parties and contain their views."

The BNP chairperson warned the government of facing a serious public wrath very soon as people are more organised and united against the autocratic rule than any time before.

"I call upon the government to back off from the anti-people and repressive path immediately. Or else, you'll have to face the consequences of all other autocrats of the world."
