Khagrachhari: A local Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal leader was hacked to death by miscreants in Adarshagram area of Matiranga upazila in Khagrachhari on Tuesday night.

The deceased is Nazrul Islam, 52, vice-president upazila unit of Krishak Dal, the farmer wing of BNP, reports UNB, a local news agency.

Sources at Matiragna Health Complex said Nazrul came under attack by a group of miscreants in the area at about 8:30pm on his way home after joining electioneering in favour of BNP-backed candidate in the municipal election.

The attackers hacked him with sharp weapons indiscriminately, leaving him injured critically.

Nazrul was taken to the health complex where doctors declared him dead.

Local BNP leaders blamed Awami League men for the murder.
