Former Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony

Former Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony has expressed his interest to take part in the Dhaka City Corporation election.

He expressed his interest to NTV Online on Friday saying that he wants to compete in Dhaka South City mayor election.

Rony said, ‘People will support you if you have the leadership quality. At first, someone has to come forward’.

Rony said he wants to work for the development of the capital using his experience and leadership excellence.

The Election Commission is planning to hold elections in the two city corporations during April-May this year.

The ruling Awami League has already named businessman Annisul Huq and former Dhaka mayor Mohammad Hanif’s son Sayeed Khokon as mayor candidates for Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations respectively.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the opposition in parliament Jatiya Party have not decided anything whether they will take part in the polls. They have also not decided their candidates for the elections.
