Indian man carrying foreign currency held at Benapole

Benapole: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained an Indian citizen carrying foreign currencies at Benapole in Jessore on Tuesday morning.

The detainee is Kalim Uddin, in his thirties, a resident of India’s Chabbish Pargana distrtic, said the BGB members.

Kalim Uddin entered into Bangladesh through Benapole check-post carrying 57,500 Saudi Riyal, 800 Indian Rupee, and Tk 4,600.

BGB claimed the border guards searched Kalim Uddin’s bag  at about 8:00am, when he came out of the passenger terminal at Benapole check-postm and found eigh Banarasi saris. Later, the BGB members took him to the camp and recovered the foreign currencies.

Benapole Integrated Check-post (ICP) camp Commander BGB Nayeb Subedar Monir Hossain said being tipped of the Indian man was held carrying foreign currencies.

Monir Hossain said Kalim Uddin is involved in currency smuggling. He will be handed over to Benapole Port police soon.
