Sherpur: A court on Thursday sentenced a man to 30 years' rigorous imprisonment for raping his 14-year old daughter in Sadar upazila.

The convicted man was identified as Hanif Uddin, 42, son of late Abdul Khaleq, resident of Dhopaghat Hodipara village in Char Sherpur union of the upazila.

The court also fined him Tk 20000, in default of which he has to serve six months jail.

According to the prosecution, Hanif, father of two daughters and a son, raped his elder daughter, a class five student, for five months in 2016.

The girl kept the incident secret at first for fear of society.

Later, she informed her mother on September 14, in 2016 as she became pregnant.

On September 20, the victim's mother filed a rape case with Sadar Police Station.

On September 25, police arrested the criminal from Jamalpur district. He confessed his crime under section 164.

The girl was sent to a safe home in Gazipur where she gave birth a child after four month. The child died after three days of its birth.

Jibon Chandra Barman, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station, also investigation officer of the case, submitted chargesheet against Hanif on January 15 in this year.

After examining all records and eight witnesses, additional district and session judge Mohammad Muslemuddin handed down the verdict.
