Shahbagh demo: 1,200 unknown students sued

Dhaka: Police have filed a case against some 1,200 unnamed students of seven government colleges newly affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) in connection with Thursday's clash during a demonstration at Shahbagh crossing.
Sub-inspector Mazaharul Islam of Shahbagh Police Station filed the case on Thursday night on charge of obstructing police from discharging their duties during the demonstration, said ASI Sabuj, duty officer of the police station.
The students of the seven colleges -- Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnessa Government Girls' College, Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College -- clashed with police as the law enforcers obstructed them from staging demonstrations at Shahbagh intersection on Thursday morning to realise their demands.
The clash ensued when police asked them to move away from the road.
Police lobbed teargas shells and fired rubber bullets to disperse them, leaving three students injured.
