Sylhet: Two clerics of Christian Churches in Sylhet received death threats from an unregistered number on their mobile phones on Tuesday night.

The clerics are Bijoy ND Cruze Omi, a pastor of Catholic Church in Khadimpara of Sadar upazila and Father Subrata Boniface Tolentino of Srimangal Christian Mission, reports UNB, a local news agency.

Nizam Uddin Choudhury, officer-in-charge of Shahparan Police Station, said the pastor Bijoy ND Cruze Omi filed a general diary with the police station after receiving death threats through SMS from an unknown mobile number on Wednesday.

The message said ‘Fill your last dream because your life is in last stage. Very soon you are going to be killed by us.’

The sender identified himself as Zaman Mojumdar.

Security has been extended in the Church area and police are investigating the incident, said OC.

Meanwhile, Subrata Boniface, Father of Srimangal Christian Mission filed a general diary with Srimangal Police Station after receiving a death threat through SMS.

Srimangal Police officer-in-charge Mahbubur Rahman said both the clerics received the death threats from the same mobile phone number, which is unregistered.

Panic gripped the Christian community in the area over the incident.
