DMP forms panel to probe students’ clash with cops
Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has formed a three-member probe committee to look into the clash between police and students of seven government colleges newly affiliated with Dhaka University (DU).
The probe panel was constituted on Sunday with DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mir Rezaul Alam as its head, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman.
The committee was asked to submit its report within three working days, he said.
The two other members of the committee are Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of DMP Mohammad Shahidullah and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Dhanmondi zone) Ashraful Alam.
The students of the seven colleges -- Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnessa Government Girls’ College, Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College -- clashed with police as the law enforcers obstructed them from staging demonstrations at Shahbagh intersection on Thursday morning to realise their demands.
Several students, including Siddiqur Rahman, a third year student of Titumir Government College, were injured during the clash.
Police filed a case against some 1,200 unnamed students of the seven colleges in connection with the clash.
