Man killed in Purana Paltan fire
A man died after inhaling fumes as a fire broke out at a multi-storey building in the city’s Purana Paltan area on early Saturday.
The deceased was Anwar, 42.
Fire Service control room duty officer Ataur Rahman said the fire broke out at the office room of a private firm on the third floor of 10-storey ‘Swadesh Tower’ building around 5:20am and spread soon.
On information, six firefighting units rushed in and doused the flame after one and a half hours of frantic efforts.
The fire service men rescued four staff of the private firm.
Later they were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared Anwar dead.
Sources at the hospital said Anwar died of suffocation due to the fire.
