Dhaka: Three-day conference of Deputy Commissioners (DCs), an annual meeting of the heads of districts with policy makers of the government, began in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The conference is held every year to discuss the ways of the execution of different policies, guidelines, priorities of the government as well as the proposal of field-level officials for smooth and effective functioning of the government and maintaining law and order.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the conference at Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) at 10:00am.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam while briefing reporters at Bangladesh Secretariat yesterday said ministers, advisors, state ministers, deputy ministers and secretaries of 52 ministries will take part in the conference featuring 22 general and 18 working sessions.

Deputy Commissioners have submitted as many as 349 proposals to the government with a view to getting necessary guidelines from the government, the cabinet secretary said.

The deputy commissioners will take part in an open discussion with the prime minister after the inaugural session, he said.

The DCs will also meet President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in the evening on Wednesday.

‘From the conference the DCs will seek guidelines from the government policy makers to overcome the legal, administrative, financial and other challenges which they are facing at field level in discharging duties,’ the cabinet secretary added.

In the conference, the DCs will also have the opportunities to conceive of the government policies, strategies and future plan to carry out development activities in their respective areas, Shafiul Alam said.
