BNP-backed mayor aspirant attacked during campaigning
Jessore: Miscreants attacked Jessore municipality BNP-backed mayor candidate Maruful Islam during electioneering on Thursday morning.
Around five followers of Maruful Islam were also injured during the attack.
Maruful Islam told the journalists at Jessore Press Club around 20 miscreants armed with weapons attacked him while he was seeking votes in the Mishonpara area at about 8:30am.
The mayor candidate claiming the attackers as Awami League followers said, they also vandalised adjacent house as he took shelter there.
He said the Kotwali police went to the spot and rescued them.
The Kotwali police officer-in-charge Shikder Akkas Ali said miscreants chased BNP-blessed mayor aspirant, Maruf, and his followers. The BNP activists hide into a house. Later police rescued them safely from the residence.
