Dhaka: Government Titumir College student Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman who suffered serious eye injuries during a police action at Shahbagh will be flown to Chennai of India on Thursday for better treatment.

Earlier, the Health Minister Mohammad Nasim came up with the announcement while talking to reporters at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital in the evening.

Siddiqur will leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka for India at about 1:00pm.

Meanwhile, Parikshit Chowdhury, Information Office of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, said Siddiqur will be taken to Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai where his treatment will begin on Friday.

On 20 July, a group of students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University demonstrated at Shahbagh demanding announcement of their examination schedules.

Siddiqur, a third-year political science student of Titumir College, suffered injuries to his both eyes as police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the demonstrating students.

On 21 July morning, Siddiqur underwent surgery at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital, but doctors said there is a little chance for him to recover fully.
