Land official caught red-handed while taking bribe

Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday caught a land official of Mymensingh red-handed while taking bribe.

 A six-member ACC team, led by its director Nasim Anwar, arrested assistant land officer of Trishal Union Parishad (Trishal Upazila) Land Office Md Helal Uddin from his office, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.

Ajoy Chandra Roy, a villager, recently went to the local land office for mutation of his land but Helal Uddin demanded Tk 4,000 for this work. Earlier, he also realised Tk 1,300 from the victim.

The victim then submitted a written compliant against the land official with the Commission. In consultation with the ACC officials, the plaintiff went to the land office on Thursday to give Helal Uddin Tk 4,000 in bribe.

While receiving the money, the ACC team caught him at about 12:30 pm. The team also seized Tk 26,900 from his possession.

Later in the day, ACC assistant director Md Masudur Rahman of its Mymensigh office, filed a case against Helal Uddin with Trishal Police Station in connection with the incident.
