An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight with law enforcers in Jhilmil project area of Keraniganj upazila, on the outskirts of Dhaka, on early Saturday.

Being tipped off that a gang of robber was planning to commit robbery in the area, a team of DB police led by sub-inspector Md Bashar along with two teams of police of Dakhshin Keraniganj conducted a drive, said Dipok Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge (OC) of Detective Branch of police of Dhaka district (South), reports the UNB.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

At one stage, Jaz Miah, 35, was caught in the line of fire and received four bullets while his associates managed to flee the scene.

Later, he was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Dakhshin Police Station, said that police recovered a shooter gun and three sharp weapons from the spot.

Jaz Miah was accused in several robbery cases, the OC added.
