Khaleda Zia to seek votes through TV, newspaper ads
Dhaka: BNP chairperson Khaleda will seek votes in favour of her party’s mayoral candidates through giving advertisements in the newspapers and on televisions.
The advertisements will be published in the newspapers and aired on televisions on December 28 (Monday), two days before the elections to 234 municipalities, a BNP leader close to Khaleda told UNB on Thursday.
In the advisements, she will call upon people to cast their votes in favour of the sheaf of paddy for restoring democracy, ensure the rule of law and security of public life and property.
Besides, a special message of the BNP chairperson in the form of a leaflet has already been sent across the country for voters. BNP candidates and their supporters are distributing the leaflets during their electioneering.
In the one-page leaflet, she justified her party’s decision of joining the municipal polls and boycotting the January-5 one. She also mentioned reasons why the voters should elect BNP candidates under the current context of the country.
Meanwhile, most central BNP leaders, including acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and many standing committee members, are already there in the field for hitting the campaign trail in favour of their party contestants across the country.
Party sources said BNP leaders and activists who have long been on the run in fear of getting arrested have started returning to their localities and taking party in electioneering following the visits by central leaders.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is monitoring the party’s overall elections activities and giving the party leaders necessary directions whenever necessary.
She also asked the party’s monitoring cells to collect the names of the leaders and who are not actively working in favour of BNP candidates in the polls.
