Dhaka: Denouncing the brutal torture on a girl student and her mother in Bogra reportedly by ruling party men, BNP on Sunday said it has manifested that the government has lost control over state affairs.

The party also demanded the government ensure exemplary punishment to those involved in the incident.

"We observe the news on the brutal incident in Bogra with serious anger and concern. The leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies, including Jubo League, Chhatra League, and Sramik League, are indulging in all types of misdeeds, not only in Bogra but also across the country," said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office, he further said, "We strongly condemn the Bogra incident and demand the government mete out exemplary punishment to those arrested in this connection."

Fakhrul said their party thinks the incident is an outcome of the anarchy and misrule unleashed by Awami League in the country. "The incident has proved that they (govt) have no control over the state."

According to media reports, Bogra town Sramik League leader Tufan Sarker with the help of his party cadres abducted a female student from her home and raped her last month.

The ruling party men allegedly beat up the girl and her mother, and shaved their heads as they went to local councillor Rumki's house seeking justice on Friday.

Police on Saturday arrested Tufan and three others in connection with the incident and the local court put them on remand on Sunday.
