Chittagong: A shipment of 25,300 tonnes of rice from Vietnam reached Chittagong port on Monday morning.

It is the fourth consignment of a total of 250,000 tonnes of rice that the government is buying to augment supplies.

A ship named MV Asian Energy anchored at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port this early hour, said local agent and also managing director of Uni Ship International Alhaz Mohammad Abul Hossain.

M Jahirul Islam, controller of Movement and Storage Division of Food Ministry, said the ship will be anchored at jetty immediately after sample collection and completion of customs formalities.

Previously, three shipments had reached Chittagong port and the lightering of the rice is underway, he said.
