Dhaka: BNP on Monday submitted its annual financial statement to the Election Commission (EC) for the 2016 calendar year, showing a fund of Tk 14, 04,878 in reserve.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi handed over the financial report to Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda around 4:30pm at Nirbachon Bhaban (Election Building), reports the UNB.

Though the party had deficit in recent years, BNP had Tk 14, 04,878 in deposit last year.

Talking to reporters, Rizvi said the sources of their party’s income are party members’ subscriptions, donation and selling of the party’s constitution and other publications.

‘Our party spent the money in its various programmes, including the arrangements of meetings and iftar parties,’ he said.

Earlier in the day, the ruling Awami League also submitted the audited report on its financial statement of 2016 calendar year to the Election Commission showing that the party’s annual income is about 1.82 crore higher than its expenditure.

According to the report, AL’s total revenue was 4,84,34,097 in 2016, while its expenditure was Tk 3,01,84,799.
