Young man arrested for raping girl for six months
Tangail: Detectives on Friday arrested a man on charge of raping a college girl for around seven months after confining her to an isolated house at Ratanpur Kashem Bazar village in Sakhipur upazila.
The arrestee was identified as Badal Miah, 34, son of Darbesh Ali of the village. Badal used to identify himself as the organising secretary of Tangail district unit of 'Bangabandhu Joy Bangla League'.
A team of Detective Branch of police picked up Badal around 11 am, said officer-in-charge of Sakhipur Police Station Maksudul Alam without mentioning the place from where the accused was arrested.
The victim alleged that Badal took her to the isolated house at the village on January 11 last promising to get her married to her lover. However, he confined her to the house.
The culprit used to keep the girl sedated all the time and raped her for the last seven months.
He did not even provide adequate food to the college girl which made her weak. He used to feed her juice, bread, biscuits and cake laced with sedatives.
On July 30, some children heard the screaming from the house while playing by it and informed it to their parents.
Later, locals rescued the victim breaking open the door when she looked very weak.
The victim was first taken to Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex where doctors referred her to Tangail General Hospital.
Following the incident, victim's brother filed a case against Badal with Sakhipur Police Station.
