Dhaka: The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is currently investigating 27 more cases of war crimes and crimes against humanity while it has already submitted reports of 13 new cases to the prosecution.

"We have so far received 710 complaints against 3,720 people. We have already concluded probe in 51 cases and currently we are scrutinizing 27 more cases," said senior coordinator of the agency M Sanaul Haque. 

A total of 28 cases have been disposed of by two tribunals so far. Of the two, ICT-2 was constituted on March 22, 2012, and kept non-functioning from September 15, 2015. 

According to tribunal sources, the ICT-1 is now simultaneously hearing nine cases of crimes against humanity and the court on May 9 concluded its hearing in the case against six Gaibandha accused including former Jamaat lawmaker Abdul Aziz alias Ghoramara Aziz.

But the proceedings of the tribunal faced a big blow when its chairman Justice Anwarul Haque died of cancer on July 13.

The government is yet to appoint a new chairman for the three-member tribunal.
