31kg gold seized in 12 hours at Dhaka Airport

Dhaka: The Dhaka Custom House seized around 31 kilograms of gold bars within 12 hours at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The custom officials recovered around 25kilograms of gold from a passenger at about 10:45pm on Saturday while around 6kilograms of gold bars on Sunday morning.
Dhaka Custom House in a text message said a passenger, Mohammad Jamil Akhter, on a wheel chair pretending as a disabled man was challenged by the custom officials while crossing the green channel of the airport at about 10:40pm. Later, the officials seized 50 gold bars each weighing around 100gram from Jamil. The market value of the gold bars is approximately Tk 12crore.
Jamil was handed over to the Airport police following a case filed against him by the custom officers.
The custom officials also seized around 6kilogram of gold bars on Sunday morning.
Dhaka custom house said around 6kilogram gold bars were found abandoned at the toilet of a US Bangla Airline’s flight in the morning. Market value of the gold bars is around Tk 3crore.
