Cox’s Bazar: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two suspected robbers and recovered huge arms and ammunitions during a drive at a reported robbers’ den in Teknaf area of Cox’s Bazar on Monday evening.

The arrestees are Mohammad Farid and Shamsul Alam, both are Myanmar nationals.

The law enforcers said Abdul Hakim, reported as a Rohingya, runs the robbers’ den in Teknaf. The detainees are members of Abdul Hakim’s gang.

RAB-7 Cox’s Bazar Company Commander Major Ruhul Amin confirmed the matter.

Major Ruhul said acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive near Teknaf Upazila Health Complex hill area and arrested Farid and Shamsul.

Later, based on information given by the duo RAB raided the robber den and recovered 15 one shooter guns, two foreign pistols and 437 bullets.

Earlier, RAB arrested Hakim’s brother-in-law carrying firearms in Cox’s Bazar.

RAB said the gang is involved in killing, abduction, robbery, and Yaba trading in the locality.

The Hakim’s gang came to the light three years ago through the killing of Teknaf police informant Selim.

Besides, Hakim is also an accused in Teknaf Sadar Union Awami League acting president and former Union Council member Sirajul Islam killing case.

Teknaf police said Hakim is accused in several cases including murder, kidnaping and extortion.

It has been known that Hakim is son of Jony Ali, from Barchara village in Rashidang police of Myanmar.

He left Myanmar nine years back after the death of his brother by police encounter.

After that, he started living in Cox’s Bazar and later he constituted his own robber gang.
