‘No capacity for fresh attacks’: Monirul hails police success
Dhaka: In comments that may come back to bite, Chief of DMP’s Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Monirul Islam has claimed law enforcers have broken the backbone of militancy across the country.
‘The militants have lost the capacity to launch fresh attacks, as we have destroyed their strength,’ Monirul, also the additional DMP commissioner, said while addressing a programme at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Tuesday, reports the UNB.
Militants who are staying abroad will be brought back home by Interpol and drives are underway to arrest those who happen to be in the country, he said.
A process to form an anti-terrorism unit in the police force is underway to root out militancy across the country, he added.
Referring to the recent arrest of Abdullah, a suspected Bangladeshi militant, from India, Monir said Abdullah who hails from Mymensingh went to India 8 years back and got involved in militancy.
On August 6, Abdullah Al Mamun, suspected to be linked to ‘militant outfit’ Ansarullah Bangla Team was arrested from India’s Muzaffarnagar.
Investigators said that he was recruiting young men for terror activities and providing them with logistic support.
