Benapole: Customs officials here on Tuesday evening seized a consignment of capital machinery while it was crossing Benapole Port without legal documents of the goods.

Sadek Hossain, director of customs intelligence and investigation department at Benapole Port, said a team of customs officials conducted a drive on information that a shipment of capital machinery will cross the port without paying duties.

Later, they seized the consignment of 836kg transformer oil submitting document of 200kg transformer oil and 25,020kg grease instead of 50kg lubricant, dodging Tk 70 lakh revenue.

Meanwhile, customs intelligence officials have begun investigation to find out how the consignment of Indian goods entered Bangladesh without valid documents.

Shawkat Hossain, customs commissioner of Benapole Port, said that legal action would be taken against the customs officials who involved in huge revenue dodging incident.

Customs intelligence has already asked authorities concerned to cancel the license of C and F Agent Gani and Sons permanently, he added.

A case was filed under customs act 1969 in this connection.
