Sylhet: Four passengers were killed as a truck rammed their private car at South Shurma upazila in Sylhet in the early hours of Sunday.

A person was also injured in the accident.

The deceased are Dhruba Jyoti Das, official of Pubali Bank Biyanibazar Charkhai branch, Adil Chowdhury, a resident of Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar, Shanjit, and Prokriti.

The Moglabazar police said a betel-leaves-laden truck hit the Sylhet-bound private car near Dharampur bridge at Moglabazar union of Hajibazar at about 12:00am on Sunday and left two of the private car passengers dead on the spot.

Later, local people and fire fighters recovered the injured and sent them to Osmani Medical College Hospital, where two more succumbed to their injuries.

The Moglabazar police seized the truck.
