Man held for ‘sexually harassing’ woman after picking her on car

Dhaka: A man was held for allegedly sexually harassing a young woman after taking her into the car at Banani in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.
A case was filed with Banani police under Women & Children Repression Prevention Act in this connection.
According to the case statement, a private car stopped in front of the victim, when she was waiting for bus near Mohakhali railgate at about 11:15am on Tuesday. Imran, driver of the car, asked about her destination and offered her lift to Banani.
Later, the woman doubted Imran as he drove the car to Gulshan-1. Imran told her that he would drop her to Banani through Gulshan.
However, after sometime Imran parked his car opposite to Government Titumir College at Mohakhali and asked the woman to sit on the front seat, which is beside him. Imran tried to sexually harass the woman after shutting off the windows of the car.
The victim started to scream for help and local people came on her rescue. Imran immediately dropped the woman from the car and started for Amtali. However, the woman left her mobile phone on the car and asked for help.
Traffic police at Amtali signal detained Imran and seized his car. He was handed over to Banani police.
The Banani police on Wednesday presented Imran in front of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court and sought five days custody for interrogation.
Dhaka Crime, Information, and Prosecution department Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman told NTV Online, a hearing will be conducted on the custody appeal at Dhaka Metropolitan Megistrate Nurunnahar Yasmin’s court.
