Dhaka: Monsoon rain continued for the second consecutive day on Saturday across the country, including capital Dhaka, leaving the normal life in disarray.

Low-income people, especially the day labourers, suffered much in the city as rain disrupted their normal pace of life.

The rain slowed vehicular movement on different city streets and triggered traffic gridlock, causing sufferings to private office goers and students.

The met office recorded 16.0 mm of rainfall in Dhaka from 6am to 12pm on Saturday.

Besides, the highest 218 mm of rainfall was recorded in Sitakunda during the period.

Heavy (44-88mm) to very heavy (89mm or more) rainfall is likely to occur at places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Dhaka and Chittagong divisions during the next 24 hours beginning at 10am on Saturday, according to the Met office.

Due to heavy to very heavy rainfall, landslides may occur at places over the hilly regions of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.

Meanwhile, several thousand people have been marooned in Kurigram, Panchagarh and Sunamganj districts due to the rise of water level in Brahmaputra, Dharala, Karatoa, Teesta and Surma rivers following downpour and onrush of water from the upstream.
