Dhaka: A nurse of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) found dead at her residence in the Chawkbazar area of Dhaka on Monday morning. Primarily, police suspected the woman committed suicide, as the body was found hanging.

The deceased is Kalia Parvin, senior staff nurse of DMCH.

The Chawkbazar police Sub-inspector (SI) Ashraful Alam said the body was found at the sixth-floor of a building at Umesh Dutta Road under Chawkbazar at about 9:00pm on Sunday. It has been known that Kalia used to share the rented house along with her colleague.

The house owner, Nasiruddin, called the police as Kalia did not response to his knock at her door at about 8:00pm. Later, police went to the spot and recovered Kalia’s hanging body.

Ashraful Alam said the body was sent to Mitford Hospital for autopsy. Reason behind Kalia’s death would be known after getting the autopsy report.

Nasiruddin said Kalia and her colleague Khaleda rented a room of the flat three months ago. Kalia’s husband, Arafat Rahman, called the house owner at about 5:00pm on Sunday and told him that he did not reach Kalia over phone.

Later, Nasiruddin went to Kalia’s house and called her. However, the nurse did not response.

DMCH authorities said Kalia Parvin was appointed at the cabin block of the new building of the hospital. She, a resident of Jaipurhat, joined at the hospital eight months ago.
